This President’s letter is bittersweet for me, as it will be my last (for a while, anyway). Between raising three kids, traveling a ton for work, and attempting to have a personal life, I have made the decision to step down as president. I won’t be leaving the board or the society, instead I will focus on my passion of executive producing the summer show. I will be heading up our production team and working with them to bring amazing new
versions of G&S to Houston stages.
As many of you know, Gilbert and Sullivan operas have been in my family since the 1970s. I am proud of what we have accomplished in my years as president, and I have no doubt that we will continue our tradition of professional productions. I am excited for the future of the society as we work with our designers and directors to being new sets, costumes, and choreography to these beloved shows. During my tenure we changed venues, stage directors, principal performers, and continued to produce high-quality operas. I am confident that this trend will continue as we enter the next era of Houston G&S.
Thank you to everyone who has helped us get to this point. By no means did I do it alone and the helpers are too numerous to mention. I hope that you all will continue to support the arts in Houston and specifically Houston G&S. We are nothing without our supporters and amazing audiences. I hope everyone has a spectacular holiday season and I can’t wait to see you all in the spring for our fundraiser gala and auditions.
Best wishes and warmest regards,
Steve McCary
